Early Detection for Cancer Diseases

\r\nIn the year 2011, worldwide ~12,000,000 people are expected to be afflicted with cancer, and 7,600,000 died of the disease.\r\n\r\nThe sheer enormity of numbers and the devastation to the lives of cancer victims, as well as their loved ones, necessitates resolute action aimed at diminishing and eventually eradicating this disease. Furthermore, the burden to society; the high costs of treatment, particularly in the advanced stages of the disease, and the terrible suffering experienced by the patients, demands a solution that will both facilitate the earliest possible diagnosis and result in the most effective way to eradicate cancer.\r\n\r\nThere are currently 200,000 cancer patients in Israel and each year 23,500 men and women will join this circle of.\r\n\r\nCancer is preventable…it’s up to you!\r\n\r\nEarly detection for cancer diseases centers\r\n\r\nThe main objectives of the Early detection for cancer diseases\r\n\r\nas well as other cancer prevention centers with which we are engaged, are to enhance the understanding of basic molecular and cellular mechanisms of tumor growth and metastasis, and develop novel approaches for the prevention and treatment of cancer. One major goal is to increase public awareness as to the importance of prevention and early detection.\r\n\r\nThe center addresses healthy populations at average or increase risk for harboring cancer, due to genetically or environmental factors as well as life style habits.\r\n\r\nThus, Early detection for cancer diseases center main goals include:\r\n

    \r\n

  • Providing cancer prevention and early cancer detection services to the residents of Israel.
  • \r\n

  • Prolonging life through early detection: in early detectable cancers, the 5-year relative survival rate would increase to approximately 92%.
  • \r\n

  • improving the quality of life by avoiding intensive therapies with high profile of toxicity (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, complicated surgeries).
  • \r\n

  • Saving resources (money and time) for patients and third party providers.
  • \r\n

  • Researching and developing new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities through the compilation of clinical data for future reference and research.
  • \r\n

\r\nThe Early detection for cancer diseases center is unique in that it combines basic and clinical research, together with the establishment of a prospective personal and molecular clinical profile while providing tailor-made cancer therapy.\r\n\r\nThe main focus of the center is to increase public awareness to cancer and its tragic consequences, by means of education and teaching for better life style modifications and providing the best service for prevention and early detection of cancer. Achieving these goals by translational medicine performing both basic sciences as well as advanced clinically oriented research.\r\n\r\nThe Early detection for cancer diseases policy is a “one stop shop”. The center gathers under the same roof, screening programs for 12 common cancers. The evaluation is done by leading physicians in each discipline.\r\n\r\nIf cancer is found the Early detection for cancer diseases center shall provide a personal and close follow-up with the leading physicians for this kind of cancer in Israel.\r\n\r\nIf it is needed the center shall seek input and help from colleagues around the world.\r\nAt the center we screen for cancers of the kind, which it has clearly been shown with respect to them that they can be prevented or if diagnosed early can be cured.\r\n\r\nThese cancers include:\r\n

    \r\n

  • Skin
  • \r\n

  • Oral cavity
  • \r\n

  • Thyroid
  • \r\n

  • Breast
  • \r\n

  • Lung
  • \r\n

  • Prostate
  • \r\n

  • Testicular
  • \r\n

  • Enlarged lymph nodes
  • \r\n

  • Ovarian
  • \r\n

  • Cervical
  • \r\n

  • Uterine
  • \r\n

  • Colon and Rectum
  • \r\n

\r\nOn top of these screening modalities, that are evidence based medicine\r\n(e.g. proven to prolong life) the Early detection for cancer diseases center is also performing the following research projects:\r\n

    \r\n

  1. The association between mind, psychological aspects and cancer.
  2. \r\n

  3. The association between silent inflammation and cancer.
  4. \r\n

  5. Genetic testing and the risk of cancer.
  6. \r\n

\r\nThe results in the first 1,500 subjects are fascinating and very encouraging. In 9.3% of these healthy subjects a benign or malignant tumor was found. Cancer was prevented or diagnosed in an early stage that does not need any further therapy.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the health of a significant number of subjects was improved following successful life style modifications (quitting smoking, engagement in regular physical activity and eating well).\r\n\r\nFlow-chart while in the center\r\nPrior to the visit:\r\nFilling of questionnaires, that intends to identify possible risk factors, which are based on the general health, personal and familial background, as well as past and present exposure to carcinogens.\r\n\r\nDuring the visit:\r\n

    \r\n

  1. Registration.
  2. \r\n

  3. Routine laboratory tests and genetic testing.
  4. \r\n

  5. Open Breakfast.
  6. \r\n

  7. Interviewed for symptoms and risk factors by a well trained physician.
  8. \r\n

  9. Psychologist evaluation.
  10. \r\n

  11. Thorough evaluation by one of the senior physicians of the center.
  12. \r\n

  13. Evaluation by specific experts in each discipline (general surgeon, oral cavity surgeon, Gynecologist urologist, dermatologist/plastic surgeon, and other experts when needed).
  14. \r\n

  15. Specific tests (Low dose CT, vaginal US, mammography, breast US, pap smear as indicated).
  16. \r\n

  17. Clinical Nutritionist’s consultation and life style modifications.
  18. \r\n

  19. At the end of the day wrapping-up and recommendations for further testing and follow-up.
  20. \r\n

\r\nPlease note that all the medical facilities with which we are engaged, and whom shall provide the package of services described above are well known and recognized medical institutions in the State of Israel and are certified by the Israeli Ministry of Health. As such they are fully and solely responsible for the services provided by them including with respect to the quality and manner in which all examinations and other services are conducted and the accuracy of their results. All test_ results are analyzed by a specialized physician, summarized in a detailed, coherent English report and available to your physicians back home. Additional tests and complementary investigations are also available whenever indicated by the above screening tests.
